Promising start to the road season for Elite Running

Over the past two weeks, Elite Running Team athletes launched a promising fall racing season with top results in high-profile road races around the globe.

On September 11th at the prestigious Great North Run, our 10,000m Olympic champion Selemon Barega had a brilliant first go at the half marathon distance. On the hilly point-topoint course along the Thyne, he finished second in 1:00:39, beaten only by world-record holder Jacob Kiplimo. A week later, it was Barega’s teammate and training partner Milkesa Mengesha who was in action on Copenhagen’s fast roads. Against fierce competition, Mengesha came out on top with a win and a shiny new PB of 58:58. In the same race, Magdalena Shauri earned a hard-fought 4th place in 1:06:52, coming just shy of her personal best from RAK Half in 2020. Still this past weekend but over in Australia, Tigist Girma started her racing season in style at the Sydney marathon, breaking the tape in a time of 2.25.10 for her first race of 2022. On the men’s side, her compatriot Chalu Deso managed to hold on for third in a nail-biting finish, crossing the line in 2.07:09.
