The two athletes representing the team in NYC were very successful: World Champion Gotytom Gebreselase(ETH) finished third in 2:23:39 after a tough fight in the last kilometers. She finished just 16 seconds behind the winner Sharon Lokedi (KEN) and only 1:08 off the NYC course record. This podium placing secured Gebreselase’s win of the 2022 Abbott Major Marathon trophy; she is officially this year’s marathon Queen, alongside King Eliud Kipchoge (KEN).
Shura Kitata (ETH) ran a very smart and brave race to win silver in the men’s race in 2:08:54, just 13 seconds behind winner Evan Chebet (KEN). It was his second runner-up finish in NYC after 2018.
