In London and Berlin, Elite Running was represented by three athletes who showed great performances in events who proved as competitive as they are prestigious.
First, in Berlin, in a race that ended in the third-best time in history, Meseret Belete ran very courageously, going out with the leaders until 15km and coming through half way in a blazing-fast 1:08. She struggled a bit over the second half but still held her ground in a very dense field, gaining two spots in the last 2km to improve her PB by 50 seconds and finish 13th in 02:23:14.
A week later in London, Alemu Megertu had a real breakthrough performance. She remained at the front throughout the race and demonstrated great resistance as competitors progressively fell back. She absolutely shattered her previous PB from Frankfurt ’19 by finishing third, a few seconds behind titleholder Joyciline Jepkosgei in 2:18:32.
In the men’s race, Valencia ’19 winner Kinde Atanaw achieved his best result so far in a marathon Major. He rebounded after a difficult one back in April in Boston, this time finishing 4th in 2:05.27, just 8 seconds off the podium. No doubt he’ll get it next time!
