Lievin, FRA – Lamecha GIRMA successfully broke the Indoor 3,000m World Record at Meeting Hauts-de-France Pas-de-Calais, France on Tuesday 15th, February. The previous record, 7:24.90, set by Daniel KOMEN of Kenya, stood since 1998. The fashion in which GIRMA broke the record was admirable. After taking the lead just before 1700m into the race when the rabbit stepped aside, GIRMA lead every step of the final 1300m. Perfect pacing was required to break the record, negative splits of 3:44-3:38 enabled the record to be within reach come the last 200m. GIRMA solidified his spot as one of the best and most versatile distance athletes currently racing as he kicked away from Mohamed KATIR to take victory in the race and seal the World Record.
This marks the end of Lamecha GIRMA’s indoor season, but all eyes are on some big performances in the outdoor season.
